Portfolio } Altar for H’art

April 15, 2008

I designed these altars for a local art and dance event called H’Art (Art with Heart).

With the inspiration of love, healing and illumination, I choose the colors red, gold, and white.  To represent coupling, I used pairs of objects in materials of the various earth elements and images of lovers.  The mirror is set in the center to reflect love for self to the viewer.  Finally, a special branch I’ve had for awhile was wrapped in two yarn pieces to represent separate individuals coming together to become one in unity with each other, or the union between self and Spirit.

The first altar was set on a floor space where I constructed the heart shape by tucking the fabric under itself, as inspired by the theme of the evening.

The second altar design was installed on a table top with similar design concepts.

Over the course of the evening, I was humbled to receive numerous compliments on the altar design.  Some people were particularly moved by the energy it created for them.  Nothing is lovlier as a designer than to receive those types of compliments.
